A fantastic, highly collectible pair of Jungle Jim, the legendary, cult-classic independent pulp fiction zine founded in Cape Town in 2011 by Jenna Bass and Hannes Bernard. Operating under the radical DIY imprint Afreak Press, Jungle Jim completely rejected formal Eurocentric literary layouts in favor of raw, lowbrow, B-grade African genre fiction.
Printed entirely via risograph on cheap, tattered newsprint using an iconic, restricted duotone ink palette, the magazine published visceral, avant-garde sci-fi, crime noir, horror, and urban metropolis stories written by emerging voices from across the continent.
True to its idiosyncratic design philosophy, each issue was bound closed at the top, requiring the reader to physically take a pair of scissors to the upper edge to unfold and read the text.

Issue No. 13 features an incredible cover illustration of fighting centipedes, containing stories spanning prison drama, curses, and romance.

Issue No. 26 leans heavily into a surreal pulp mapping design, highlighting themes of ghosts, vigilantes, feminism, and justice.

Condition: Very Good / Collector Grade. Both issues are tightly bound and have crisp, flat edges. The newsprint blocks show uniform, natural age-toning characteristic of the medium. The vibrant red and blue inks remain crisp and completely smudgeless. An increasingly hard-to-find pair of modern South African design and independent publishing history.
